Use BigOven to save your recipes … and more

2015-03-01_0950We’ve partnered with BigOven to let you easily save recipes on JAQUO to your phone or tablet, to make grocery lists and menu plans.  BigOven is a great free recipe organizer and grocery list used by millions of cooks. It’s available for iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone and the web.

When you visit a recipe on this site, we give you two handy options. You can print the recipe – by which we mean the recipe alone not the sidebar and footer – in a printer-friendly way. You can then add this to your recipe file or folder.

But if you’re looking for the complete service, treat yourself to a free account at BigOven. This is nothing short of miraculous.

On the right, you see Nancy’s Hot, Fast Chili recipe. See the button with the tiny heart? That enables you to save that recipe – or any other JAQUO recipe – to your own free Big Oven account.

Then what?

BigOven is so much more than just having your favourite recipes online. That’s just the beginning. I can’t tell you how many searchable recipes there are on BigOven because more are added all the time. But there’s so much you can do there.

Plan menus, create grocery lists and more

You can use BigOven on your computer, your phone or your tablet. I like to take my phone when grocery shopping – my list is right there.

Another advantage is that it can save me money (always a good thing). If, for example, I see that eggplants are ridiculously cheap that day, I can quickly search for eggplant recipes right there in the supermarket using my phone. Not only do I find wonderful recipes, the app gives me  full ingredients list of what I need for the recipe. It even tells me which department of the store I need to go to. This saves time and money.

I like to plan a week’s menu too. This makes me feel so organised and I know that this too is a money saver. I simply add the recipes I like to the menu planner and the system gives me my grocery list.

More about BigOven and how the “Save Recipe” button works

The “Save Recipe” button is powered by BigOven and lets you save a copy of recipes from your JAQUO into your BigOven account. When you click the “Save Recipe” button on a blog, a window pops up and you’ll create an account (just once). Now you’ll be able to save the recipe to your recipe box and add it to your grocery list. All the recipes you save show up in your “Added” list in the apps, carry the ingredients and a photo, and link back in a simple tap to the original blog for the full recipe instructions.

BigOven’s free apps and web site sync across all devices, so you have your recipes and grocery list at home and on-the-go. The grocery list sorts items by aisle for you, saving you time at the grocery store.

BigOven membership is free and lets you store up to 50 recipes, make grocery lists, menu plans and more. An optional Pro membership upgrade is also available from BigOven, which offers unlimited recipe storage and removes all ads.

  1. I had no idea Big Oven had so much to offer. Love the idea of scanning in written recipes that the app will type up. So handy to have them in all one place. Looks like it is time to put the app back on my phone and iPad! Thanks for sharing this information.
