Do You Suffer From Online Attention Deficit Disorder?

Have you had one of those days where you start out doing one thing and never get back to it?  I’ve done it two days in a row now.  I see cute emails that float around now and then where a person goes to find their keys and ends up defrosting the freezer, etc., etc…

With computers, you don’t even have to leave your chair to do that same thing!

All it took today was one click.  I was just looking for a link on my website.  That’s when it started.  While I was there I noticed an error in an article that needed to be corrected.  Once I fixed that I though I should check others only to see I missed a category in one.  I fixed it, then scrolled through to see I’d missed others.  Then I ran across one that didn’t have a featured photo.  Of course that meant others might have the same problem so I had to check that photos weren’t missing from other articles.  Yep, I forgot all about the categories.  The link I started out to find?  What link was that?

And What About Pinterest?

Next while I was checking that last article, I remembered I’d forgotten to pin it to Pinterest, so off I went.  Is it even possible to go to Pinterest without seeing what’s new?  While I was there I saw a recipe that looked really good, so I pinned it and went to check out the site it was on.  I noticed some people had repined my pins so i had to look and see which pins.  Then I needed to look at the boards they pinned to.  After following a few, I ended up back on my boards where I decided to moved some to a different board.

We’re talking pinterest here.   It was an hour later when I remembered I had been in the middle of something.  Only I couldn’t remember what.

Not Facebook Too!

Since I was online anyway, I checked my email.   Someone had commented on a post on Facebook.  I clicked so I could like it, saw I had a message and answered it.  Then I noticed 20 alerts on my homepage, so went to see what they were about.  An hour later….

Pinterest and Facebook both are highly risky to anyone who remotely has ADD.  There is so much to scroll through, all little photos that don’t take a lot of time to read. It will only take a minute, right?  We can pin all day long (though who knows when we will get back to them), photo after photo, without pausing to think about why were there in the first place.

Articles May Consume Your Time

It’s the same with articles.  I went to look up a recipe to see how much coconut oil was needed. I ended up on a page that suggested it be used for whitening teeth.  That took me to another page that had a dozen other suggestions for natural teeth whitening.  Somehow that got me to a good solution for cleaning mirrors and windows.  Is that a little scary, or is it just me?    I added that to my list when I realized I hadn’t written down milk on the list. I thought I saw a coupon for that so I went to the grocery store site….

Even writing this brief article, someone messaged me and I ended up watching at least four youtube videos on Facebook because they had dogs in them.   Speaking of dogs…

Do you too suffer from online attention deficit disorder too?
