Someone On Your Gift List Who Lives Alone Is Hard To Buy For?
I know just what you mean! I have a bachelor uncle and I always dreaded Christmas time or his birthday. He’s my only uncle and I love him dearly so I always search and search for something for him for those two special times. He has specific tastes and favorites, and every year I just ran myself ragged trying to figure out something he would enjoy. But not anymore, because I think I’ve figured out gift buying for him now. One of the things that made it difficult was that he’s a live-alone person and not the easiest person for which to buy. After taking another look at my uncle’s interests, likes and dislikes, and asking him a few discreet questions, I came up with a few choices I think he’ll like. If you find yourself in a similar situation, do a bit of snooping (nicely of course!) into his/her life; find out what they can use, what their interests are, what they really want, and what they actually like. Chances are you’ll come up with a whole list of possibilities. I’ve offered a few suggestions to get you started.
The Keurig K-Cup Home Brewer is an excellent gift for someone living alone, because every cup of coffee or tea is made fresh. No more burnt smell or taste from sitting on a hot plate too long. It’s also safe from the danger of forgetting to turn off the coffee maker and having it burn up if left too long. Not only that but the person receiving this gift can try different flavors whenever they want, without being committed to one flavor for a long time. Keurig puts out a sample pack of flavors for those looking for a favorite. TIP: If they already have a Keurig Brewer then send them boxes of K-cups in their favorite flavor or in something they’ve mentioned they’d like to try. Since many people are trying to live frugally these days, they’ll appreciate your saving them the expense for either their favorite brew or for the chance to try something different.
Food and Goodies
Food, munchies and goodies are always a good choice, taking into account any of their health problems or food restrictions. If your live-alone person loves snacks, cookies, sweet treats, they’d love this gift basket shown below. Always make sure before giving, that there aren’t health problems about the type of goodies you want to give. Gift baskets filled to the brim with all the stuff they won’t or can’t buy for themselves are available year round. But perhaps you prefer to do the baking and want to send homemade cookies. That will work too, because you can wrap them in holiday style and have them delivered. Maybe you can send several dozen so they can be frozen and only a few taken out at one time. That way they stay fresh for many months and they think of you every time they eat them. This Harvest Time Cookie Recipe of mine goes especially well accompanied by the good coffee from the Keurig Brewer. If you’d like to try them, they ship nicely too for those gifts that are to be mailed.
Barbecue/Grilling Gift Basket
Perfect for the person who is Master or Mistress of the Grill, this gift of barbecue goodies is a hammered metal basket filled with everything you need for summer grilling. Contains oak chips, steak seasoning, personalized Chef Hat (be sure to supply desired name when ordering) and more, along with a generous assortment of goodies to snack on until dinner is ready. Gotta keep your strength up while you’re cooking, y’know! Nobody needs to get another tie or pair of funny socks for Christmas or birthday. When you’ve done your snooping into their interests, you can tailor the gift to their tastes and if their taste runs to barbecue or grilling, this gift is the one!
When the winter winds blow, and it’s cold outside, it’s nice to snuggle down into the warmth of a good electric blanket. If your live alone giftee is anything like mine, they’d appreciate the thoughtfulness of the gift of an electric blanket. Cold feet in the wintertime can actually keep you awake! Electric blankets are available on Amazon in twin, full, queen, or king size and various colors.
Hot Dog Roller/Griller
Yummm, hamburgers and hot dogs are two of the most cooked meals in a single man or woman’s house. Why? Because they’re quick, require no pre-planning and they satisfy hunger. Be sure this gift is going to someone who is not a vegetarian. The gift won’t be appreciated, and you’ll have wasted your money, and you could have done something more appropriate. But if they like hamburgers and hot dogs, you’ll be thanked profusely for this gift.
Flannel Pajama Lounge Set
Everyone likes to be comfortable, and a cotton flannel lounge set has to be one of the most cozy, comfy items of clothing in the world. A set like this is sure to be a favorite gift. They come in all sizes, 100% cotton, machine washable, with various plaids, prints and colors. Men’s sizes only, they come with crew neck and drawstring pants, perfect for those times of relaxation.
Comfort For The Ladies
For her, a set of Nautica designed loungewear, to be comfy and cozy enough to sleep or to lounge in. Non-binding design, made with drawstring waist, side pockets, 100% Cotton. She’ll relax and love ’em!
DVD Player and DVDs
If they love movies and don’t have a DVD player, get them one. If possible watch a movie or two with them, so they feel comfortable using it. Include with the player a few of their favorite movie or TV program DVDs. This is an especially welcome gift for those who enjoy movies but can’t afford or don’t want to go alone to a theater.
Amazon Gift Card
If you’re just really, really stuck and haven’t a clue about what to buy for your “live alone” person, why not give them the perfect gift with an Amazon gift card. It’s one size fits all and they can shop for their favorite things.
