A Simple DIY to Organize Some Clutter
We were in serious need of organizing our landing to the basement. We had a pile of coats, shoes and hats tucked along the wall of the landing.
So what do you do to organize coats shoes and hats? First you need a coat rack with some hooks, and then you need a shoe rack.
Here is a simple DIY on how I organized this small space. I went out and found a coat rack with four coat hooks already attached, this made it pretty simple to hang.
The next step was to find a shoe rack, and that I did. I got an expandable shoe rack that fit the space perfectly. The shoe rack expands from 24 inches to 45 inches and is 27 inches high and 9 inches deep.
I assembled the shoe rack first, a very easy assembly as it took me about 10 minutes. I set the shoe rack in place so I could figure out how high I needed to set the coat rack. This was so the coats don’t hang over and interfere with the shoes. Pretty smart move on my part don’t you think?
Next I marked the height for the coat rack, and then I measured the wall. I had 36 inches to work with in order to center the coat rack. Next I marked the center for the coat rack and used my level to make sure it was going to be straight. Oh yea I’ve hung a couple of thing before at a slight angle, so it’s always a good idea to use a level.
All I had left to do now was mark the wall, drill the holes, hammer the anchors in place and screw the coat rack to the wall. I had to use plastic anchors because there were no wooden studs to screw into.
I hope you enjoyed my DIY to organize coats and shoes.
