What a wonderful way to honor your Mom! Make one of her recipes, that you grew up with and that bring back the memories of your childhood. There are so many foods I remember from my childhood I could write a book! This recipe for Mama’s Spice Cake is one of my favorites and it may become one of yours too.

Maybe we all think that our own mothers were the very best foods that the cooked the very best recipes? Well, it some cases, it’s definitely true. Nancy’s mom was a natural at creating delicious recipes. She wasn’t trained  as a chef or a cook but nevertheless, created professional standard food.

She learned the way that many of today’s top chefs first developed their own interest in cooking and baking – she would spend time in the kitchen with her own mother absorbing her methods, ideas and techniques. It’s wonderful that these special recipes are handed down from generation to generation.

There’s something about cooking in a family kitchen. Even though restaurant meals and ready-prepared food from the grocery store can be delicious, many of us think that there’s nothing quite like homemade.

Maybe that’s because when moms cook they add a very special ingredient.

Moms add love to the meals and foods they create.

  1. i wish i could make my moms recipes. She keeps them to herself. Much like her mother did. Unless the grandkids pick up watching her in the kitchen. I can only hope she has them written down somewhere.
