Choose accessories and décor colours for your artwork.
This is the second article in my series about using artwork to provide an instantly coordinating décor palette for your home. This time, we’re working with an image of palm trees overlooking the ocean.
As you can see below the artwork has some wonderfully subtle hues. In this palette Sherwin Williams has picked out paint colours that blend perfectly with the art. These can be used in so many different ways depending on your tastes and the proportions of your room. For example, if you want to give the visual illusion that your ceiling is lower, then paint it in the black or the dark green. Or use the yellow on your walls to give your room a sunny aspect and use the olive for an accent wall.
Use the colours in the artwork and the swatches for accessories in your space. Or use it for upholstered furniture. The dark green is lovely for a soft furnishing fabric. especially if it is offset by using pillows from your palette, such as the ones you see on right. They are available from Design Within Reach.
A green throw is a wise purchase – or in any colour from your palette. (See further colour suggestions below). It will add a pop of colour to your upholstery and is very practical, either draped casually or neatly folded.
The sage green one you see here is from Amazon and it’s a good idea to buy selection in colours from your artwork so that you can instantly change the look of your room – with the seasons or simply your mood. Choose a bright green, gold or orange for a cheerful and colourful look.
This artwork just cries out to be accessorised with plants of foliage. A simple, elegant glass vase filled with ferns if perfect or, if you have a green thumb, add leafy houseplants. Tropical plants work perfectly and create an oceanside ambience. Or choose simple blooms that match your colour scheme.
The simple glass vase you see on the right is ideal and ringing the changes when you change your flowers can give your room a fresh new look. Sunflowers look terrific with this colour scheme and artwork. This lovely, elegant vase can be purchased online here.
Start with your artwork
See more tropical artwork here. Price start at under $15 for unframed prints and there is a huge range of framing and mat options available too.
Here are some other colours from the artwork that you can use in your décor. If you’re shopping offline, print the swatches and slip them into your wallet to check the colours against the products you find.
Use them sparingly for the best effect. As you can see there are colours that are suitable if you’re looking for a warm colour scheme for your room and the cooler hues at the top are perfect for a sophisticated look.
For a bedroom, you might prefer the relaxing pastels but in a dining room, you can be much bolder – this is one room where you can be much more adventurous in your colour selection. The same applies to bathrooms.
Decorate your rooms the way that expert interior designers do – base your colour palette on your artwork.
