Do You Feel Out of Focus? Try These Tips
This time of year over all others seems to draw us off our path as we wander off on various rabbit trails. Do you feel that way too?
All the activity preparing for and celebrating Christmas can leave you feeling exhausted and confused, asking yourself, “Now Where was I?” If New’s Year’s celebrations and champagne are included, you may not be able to focus on this print yet, let alone any tasks.
It wasn’t at a holiday time when I wrote, “7 Tips to refocus your mind when you are feeling overwhelmed.”
It was late summer when a few unexpected changes caught me off guard and unprepared. I found myself going from one thing to another, turning in circles, unable to accomplish anything because it seemed there was too much to even attempt. Let’s face it, we all have times like that. It can feel like everyone else is doing great, being productive and seeing results, while we feel we are the only ones useless.
It seems to me anytime we begin something new those feelings emerge. Take learning to do something online. Pick one thing. Perhaps setting up a web site. Or maybe writing a simple article. It isn’t simple when you first start. There are so many details to learn. Often I find when I learn one thing it leads me to three other things I need to know before I can even begin. At times like that it is easy to get overwhelmed and confused. It’s a bit like getting on a speedway with no off ramp. You are expected to go fast whether or not you are ready.
Change can be very fickle. We can just get comfortable with something, start to feel like we have the hang of it, and then find it unsuccessful and unsustainable. That puts us right back where we started, though now we have some knowledge to take with us as we again face the unknown.
The tips in the article can help. There are suggestions for getting your ideas down in writing (well, computer writing at least), as well as simply getting away from the ideas at all. Each is needed at some point. Every one will be handy to practice often and regularly. You can do this thing. I can do this thing. I hope this helps you get back on the direct path you have chosen.
