How to Keep Travel Cheap
It always startles me how expensive travel is these days. I don’t mean the cost of package holidays or all-inclusive trips, but the costs of physically getting from A to B. Companies like Intrepid Travel or G Adventures have amazing offers on trips all through the year, but these do not include the cost of the flight and any other transport you may need in order to join the trip.
There are ways of saving a fortune on travel costs. For example, make sure that you have planned the journey in its entirety before you set off. You need to know the cheapest and most convenient way of getting to the airport, and what will you do you when you get to your destination, get a bus, taxi or hire a car? Which will be cheapest and more convenient?
Forward planning is essential because mistakes will eat up your holiday cash.
It may be that you will save some money on a cheaper flight because it won’t take you to your exact destination, but have you looked into the cost of the journey once you get off the plane? The cheap plane ticket may not be such a bargain after all. Do all the research before you book your flight.
Also, how much do you spend getting to the airport from where you live? Is the airport miles away because that can be an expensive addition to your travel costs? I have worked out that it’s actually cheaper to drive to my nearest airport than it is to go by rail. And getting there by bus is just inconvenient and adds at least another hour to the whole journey.
But what do I do with my car?
I use a company called JustPark, which is a company that finds you cheap parking spaces near airports and other places of interest at much reduced rates. It has saved me a fortune and a great deal of inconvenience.
