The Story

An unexpected need for a quick divorce take Mac Faraday and his half-brother, David, on a life changing trip to New York. It will put into question the wedding that is only days away and make the men seriously question their choices.

It was a rather inconvenient time for David to learn he was already married! But it happened Vegas. Need we say more?

What starts out as a simple task to accomplish grows more involved with each page of Lauren Carr’s latest novel, Cancelled Vows. First, his “wife” hadn’t known they were married either, but she isn’t as certain she wants a divorce. After all, weren’t they in love?  Since she is a rising media star, she may not want it to come out though either.

Too soon after they arrive, the plot takes a strange twist when Gnarly alerts to something hidden within the wall: A body, sealed in since a remodel a few years ago.

Murder is usually a slippery slope. Once one has killed, it can make further deaths necessary and the decision easier. But just how many do you kill before it is enough?

It was a terrific mystery. Bad cops–among the good ones, political corruption, with the media in the middle of it. When investigative reporters and journalists begin to vie for power and fame, someone is sure to lose. But is this about the journalists or is there a secret someone is wiling to kill to keep?

My Thoughts

Once I started Cancelled Vows, it wouldn’t let me go! The complicated plot kept me anxious to know what would happen next and to whom. There were so many questionable characters, it was hard to tell who would be the guilty party. Thankfully, Ms. Carr includes her regular list at the beginning that tells of each character in the book.  That surely helps to keep everyone in place.

I admit I felt a bit frustrated with David part of the time. As upstanding sheriff and former soldier, used to making wise decisions, his love life did not reflect the same!  Yet as the story progresses and Ms. Carr reveals why, his reasons become understandable. Things do have a way of working themselves out, don’t they?

Lauren Carr has several surprises in store for you too, as you read. If you’ve followed the Mac Faraday series, you won’t want to miss this one.

There are nearly as many sub plots as suspects this time around. Yet, as usual,  the author smoothly pulls them altogether by the end. She has a knack for that!  Of course, you’ll find a lot of bodies along the way.

Very entertaining. I’m already tempted to read it again, to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I’d highly recommend Cancelled Vows.
