Adventurers Abroad, A Review
Have you dreamed of living in another country? Are you actively planning ahead for that move today?
Whenever I read about expats these days I feel a twinge of longing. It sounds so appealing to visit another country that way. So many of us might venture there for a vacation, but that gives you such a small taste of what it offers.
Next best perhaps, is to go to one place for a month, and explore the area from that home base, but if you truly want to learn a different culture, ideally living abroad for a year or more is the only way to immerse yourself into your new setting.
Millions of Americans have chosen that path, for a variety of lengths as well as reasons. This book shares the experiences of several. Surprising age group: 25 to 34, rather than the expected higher number of retirees.
If you’ve ever considered it, you will want to read this book. It answers questions, offers considerations you may not have thought of, and gives examples of real people living the life and loving it.
Hear From Actual Expats
You will hear from a wide variety of expatriates…Many who spent a long time time doing their research before the move, some jumped right in, making the move without too much thought. Nevertheless, they embraced the move and learned as they went along. Their reasons are as varied as their locations.
- Young men and women who want to experience the world while young.
- Many seeking something more than a single culture.
- Men and women who fall in love with someone from another nation and become part of it.
- Some continue their education.
- Sometimes for careers.
They take us to different countries…Singapore, Hungary, Costa Rica, France, Germany, England, Sweden, to name a few.
Important Considerations
There are lessons within as well. How to become a part of the local community, how hard that can be in some nations. When one makes a move like this, that is, for more than a vacation, to live in another country, the desire is there to get to know the customs, the way of life. Yet some tend to hang out with other expatriates rather than the locals. In many areas you will find many to associate with. It will be up to the individual how their time is spent.
Don’t miss the last chapter that includes several characteristics that are important to succeed in any new country.
It is fascinating to read how these people achieved their goals to live outside their own country. With so much to consider with such a move, their insight is essential before you strike out on your own. From homeschooling to insurance, to safety and internet security, it is discussed here.
It is an easy, interesting book that I would highly recommend this book to anyone even considering a move. The more knowledge you gain at the start, the more confident you can be in selecting the country as well as the area within.
