Queen Senna of England: A New Zealand Maori.
It does take a bit of a stretch of the imagination but in theory at least, it is possible (although improbable) that England could have a queen named Senna. What’s more, the small girl who bears that name is a New Zealand Maori. How is this?
Well firstly, quite a lot of the existing members of the royal family would have to be wiped out before Senna could take the throne. She is currently in the upper twenties in the line-to-the-throne list. But stranger things have happened. (If only in fiction 🙂 )
Senna was born on June 22nd, 2010 and at the time of her birth she was 27th in line to the throne. Her grandfather is the Duke of Gloucester, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.
The duke’s daughter, Lady Davinia Windsor, married in 2004. Her husband, Gary Lewis ***, is a former sheep-shearer and surfer from New Zealand. He is a Maori – they are the indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand – and the couple had met when they were both vacationing and surfing in Bali. Their daughter Senna was their first child.
If Senna takes after her parents, she will be stunning. See them in the photograph below taken on the balcony at Buckingham Palace. Left to right: Prince Harry, Gary Lewis, Davinia Lewis, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Prince William.
Just before Prince George was born to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge the way that royals are placed in the order of succession was changed so that sons no longer had precedence over daughters. This means that Senna is ahead on her younger brother in line to the throne, following after her mother.
Here is Senna with her parents.
A Maori monarch
Britain has always been multicultural. But I believe it would be a wonderful thing to see a Maori monarch on the throne. It would truly represent the way Britain is today. Due to a strange combination of circumstances Queen Elizabeth II, who was never expected to be the sovereign, became the monarch when she was twenty five. If even stranger circumstances dictates (and who knows what the future holds in store?) could we have a Queen Senna within our lifetimes?
If Senna seems to be an unlikely choice of name for a British queen, how about these girls who are also in the list? (The figure in brackets show their current status in royal succession).
Savannah (14), Isla (15), Zara (16), Mia (17), Lyla (32), Zenouska (53), Tewa (59), Tallulah (65).
*** British Formula One fans please note: Don’t you think it would be wonderful if we had a queen named Senna Lewis? A queen bearing the names of two of the greatest Formula One drivers?
Why didn’t her parents give her Schumacher as a middle name?

It will be interesting to see what she looks like as she grows up. She may never become Queen, but I do think it’s cool that she brings the Maori element into the royal line.
