Groundhog Day
We are fast approaching that day where some people either look forward to early signs of spring or they are dismayed by the forecast that they are about to hear. In North America, we have this February holiday called Ground Hog Day, falling on the 2nd and causing usually normal people to act in ways that are to say the least peculiar!
Canadians wait for Wiarton Willy and our American Neighbors look for Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania. Phil is responsible for the weather forecast for the next six weeks. What started out as a way to break up the long winter with a little bit of frivolity, has turned into a week long celebration of the seasons.
You can check out the link to see what they have planned for this year’s activities. Everyone from the grown ups to the little ones get involved in the celebrations. It’s a great time to meet your neighbors, laugh and enjoy some silliness that makes all of us smile. Gobbler’s Knob is the official spot where the Groundhog will be taken out of his burrow and everyone can see for themselves what the future is going to be like……
Might I suggest that if you have never enjoyed some silliness in the middle of winter, this just might be a travel destination to put on your list of things to do.
There are lots of pictures to be taken and memories to be made. You just need to go there and enjoy! One thing is sure, if you go, you will be talking about it for years to come and isn’t that what great memories are all about?
