Things to do in England: The South

The south of England is one of the most visited parts of the UK. It is famous for its beautiful and varied coastline, very interesting history, and seaside towns.

The south of England has its own Somerset cider, called Scrumpy, its own delicious Devonshire cream teas, Cornish pasties, Brighton rock and of course it is where you’ll find castles where knights sat around round tables and where witches and wizards cast all sorts of spells. Boscastle has a very special witchcraft museum and shop, so do make an effort to visit this charming tiny town nestled on the rocky shores of the west side of Cornwall it really is a magical place.

Devon and Cornwall is where you will find some of Europe’s most spectacular and natural beaches. Lands End is in Cornwall and this is the start (or end) of the famous walk to the most northern part of the UK – John O’Groats in Scotland.

Devon is where you will find the vast and forlorn Dartmoor, and if you listen very carefully you may hear the howl of the Hound of the Baskervilles.

The south of England boasts great cities too such as Bath, Bristol, and Plymouth. Brighton is a very popular seaside town that is well worth a visit if you are based in London. It is easy to get to you can catch a train from Waterloo. The journey takes about one hour so it is possible to visit for the day.

Then there is Stonehenge, on the Salisbury Plain, in Wiltshire. The infamous Glastonbury Festival, Winchester and Chichester, with their wonderful medieval cathedrals. The list really is very, very long.
