Start your day with the easiest, healthiest breakfast

Who on earth has time to make a fresh, healthy and easy breakfast every morning? For many years, I’ve read about the importance of breakfast. They say that it’s the most important meals of the day and I can believe it. But it’s that old problem – time. Grabbing a bowl of cereal is so much easier. Skipping breakfast, which was my previous habit, is even easier.

Commercially-produced breakfast cereals are far healthier today that they used to be but nevertheless, I was aware that my diet – although pretty healthy is most ways – was missing fresh fruit.

So I combined these two problems – lack of breakfast and and negligible fruit in my diet – and believe it or not, this breakfast takes less than a minute to prepare. And it’s so tasty – a wonderful start to the day.

I have to thank my colleague, Merry Citarella, for introducing me to the Ninja blender. I now use it at least once a day and  as a result, eat much more healthy food prepared in a fraction of the time. You can read what Merry has to say about the Ninja here.

Here’s my wonderful, tasty recipe.

Easy strawberry breakfast recipe

Rating

Serves: 1 portion

Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon oatmeal
  • A little cold water
  • 3 medium / large strawberries
  • 3 heaped teaspoons thick ,plain yogurt
  • ¼ - ½ teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon granola (optional)
Instructions
  1. Spoon the dry oatmeal into a breakfast cup.
  2. Add cold water - just enough to cover.
  3. Place strawberries (green tops removed) in blender.
  4. Add yogurt.
  5. Add honey.
  6. Blend for about ten - fifteen seconds.
  7. Add to oatmeal in the breakfast cup and stir.
  8. Optionally, add a little granola on top to add a little crunch.

This is the right amount for one person but if there are other people around, I can just multiply as necessary. I like to use a little oatmeal because it adds fibre and is reputed to be beneficial to heart health.

The granola is optional (as is the honey) but I do like the crunchiness it provides.

The Ninja is SO easy to clean as all I need to do is run the blade, the container and the lid under the cold tap to rinse them clean. Then they can just be left to air-dry. Merry has the profession version which, if you’re a keen cook, she highly recommends. I have the smaller version which is ideal if you’re preparing meals for just one person. Here it is below.

  1. Thanks Jackie. The Ninja RULES!

    • Merry I LOVE it! Thank you for introducing me to this brilliant little machine. I try to keep appliances to a minimum because I have a tiny kitchen but I don’t know what I’d do without the Ninja now.

It was worth every penny. In fact, I suspect that it paid for itself within a week. I make homemade soups instead of the expensive canned variety. That is a huge saving in itself!

      • I completely agree! It’s rare a kitchen appliance lives up to our expectations. I’m still finding new uses for it. Thanks again.
