Singapore Sling: Grand Prix Gourmet
It’s said that bartender Ngiam Tong Boon invented the Singapore Sling over a hundred years ago at the Raffles Hotel. Some say that when he retired he took the secret ingredient with him. So whether the recipe I use to create this delicious drink is one hundred percent authentic I can’t say, but I can tell you that it’s refreshing, tasty and has a bit of a kick 🙂 It’s much better if you use freshly squeezed pineapple juice rather than a prepared variety and if you love fresh pineapple as much as I do, garnish the glass with a couple of slices from the fruit. Mr Tong Boon made his version in a cocktail shaker with ice, then strained it into the glass. I prefer to mix the drink then pour it into a highball glass over a few ice cubes. In really warm weather, or to make a longer drink, top up the glass with soda water or your favourite bottled sparkling water.  Save Print Singapore Sling Rating 5 from 1 reviews Serves: 1 drink Ingredients ½ measure gin ¼ measure cherry brandy ¼ measure pineapple juice A few drops of Cointreau and Benedictine Dash Angostura bitters Soad water (optional) Fresh pineapple slices to garnish Instructions Put all ingredients (except pineapple slices into a cocktail shaker over ice Shake well Strain and pour into a highball glass and add soda water if liked Garnish with fresh pineapple 3.3.3077  You can,of course, vary the fruit you use to garnish the drink. The traditional version uses a cocktail cherry in addition to pineapple but some might find those  little overpoweringly sweet. Choose whatever you like best.
