Festive Cheese Garlic Bread

Garlic bread wreath

This is a lovely way to make a quick – and delightfully edible – centrepiece for a celebration meal.

It’s simple to make and looks very impressive. Your guest will think you’ve spent ages preparing it.

I cheat and use ready-made dough but if you make your own bread, so much the better.

The ‘wreath’ can be decorated in so many ways to make it suitable for the occasion. Here you see aversion which has the traditional holiday colours of red and green.

That’s so easy to do with your favourite selection of tomatoes, green salad leaves and fresh herbs.

Usually when I make garlic bread, I make it in the traditional French stick shape – all you have to do is form the ‘sausage’ of dough into a ring before you put it in the oven.

Score it lightly to create the slices and bake at the temperature recommended by the manufacturers of the dough.

While it’s baking, mix together some olive oil, freshly ground black pepper and crushed garlic – the amount of garlic is up to you(I like to use lots).

Slice the cheese of your choice. Sometimes I use a mix of various cheeses – sometimes I simply use one. Brie is delicious in this dish.

Remove the bread ring from the oven and cut the slices where you made the score marks – don’t cut all the way through to the bottom though. Spoon the oil / garlic mix into each slice, stuff with cheese and return to the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbling. Allow to cool slightly and decorate with salad or the raw vegetables of your choice.

Delicious!
