Why I Love Our Playmobil Pirate Ship

I bought a Playmobil Blackbeard’s Pirate Ship over 20 years ago for my sister’s son who was turning 6, and it was the best toy ever!

Why I Love Our Playmobil Pirate Ship

He played with it for many years and later his little brother took over the helm!

After he played with it for my sister passed it back to me when my own son was 4 years old. It had gone full cycle, and after a lot of use from 2 children and their friends, the Blackbeard’s ship was still looking ship-shape!

It was still in great condition, which is testimony to how well Playmobil toys are made and what value for money they are. Of course the rigging is all gone now and some of the many, many pieces have been lost, but the ship itself has stood the test of play beautifully. You can order spare parts easily online should if you really want to.

Our pirate ship has grown up with my son. It is a really nice toy because it has wheels under the ship, so we have played with it on the living room carpet and wooden floor as it rolls along giving the illusion of it actually sailing by.

The ship also floats, and so it’s been in the bath many times with all the children. It has come with us on holiday where we have sailed it on rivers, lakes, and the sea. We have had great fun with it. The stickers suffered a bit because of this, but that really doesn’t matter.

It came with lots of pirates and accessories that pirates need, like treasure and a treasure chest, canons that fire cannon balls, pirates with swords and weapons – it really captured our imagination. The attention to detail is amazing.

PLAYMOBIL Fire Rescue Station
This is another great set. You can actually light a fire and put it out by squirting water out of the fireman’s hoses! This set is brilliant too.

Educationally Playmobil toys encourage independent play and are very easy for very small hands to manipulate, so they work on hand eye coordination, and they are also fantastic for story making.

I have lots of videos of my son creating wonderful stories using his various sets of Playmobil, we have made desert islands in the living room and re-enacted battles galore!

But it doesn’t stop there because my son is nearly 14 and now and he uses his Playmobil figures and models to make stop motion movies.

Below is an example. It is a film about Christopher Columbus’s voyage across the Atlantic, which he made last year when he was 12. You can see how well the people stand and hold on to their props and to the set. This is so important when you’re making stop motion films. The size of the figures are perfect too. It has lengthened the life of this toy by years. I told you I was getting my money’s worth!

This is my son’s video of the story of Christopher Columbus. I really like the storm at sea! Playmobil kept my 13 year old fully engaged in making a 5 minute stop motion film. That represents hours of concentrated work.

We have bought so many different sets over the years and each one has been a delight to open on Christmas morning. My husband used to get just as excited about opening a new box as my son!

All the sets have been amazing, but Blackbeard’s Pirate Ship holds a very special place in my heart because I bought it so long ago.

Watch out Spielberg here we come!

Our camper van came with us on our camping trips. It kept my son busy while we set up camp and cooked etc. The people even came climbing with us! I have picked sets out because I have personal experience of them, however, if you click on any one you will be taken directly to Amazon.com, where there are so many others to choose from, all of the same reliable quality as these.

Here’s another review I have written about Lego which is for older kids Lego Starwars I hope you find it useful.
