Truths Not Spoken will please any reader who enjoys a light romance with a bit of suspense added. The fast paced story keeps you reading, a little anxious to know where the story is heading, and how it will be resolved. It is fast paced with likable characters, except for the few who are not meant to be. You will find yourself uncertain and suspicious of several. Once I started the book, I wanted to keep reading.
The Story:
Laurel, jewelry designer and single mother to 9 year old Emily, must confront her past if she is to face the future. Ten years ago she left, never wanting to go back. Yet a single news clip on the television threatens to take away everything she has built.
Now hiding from the press and her manipulative ex boyfriend, Vic, it seems impossible she will ever get her life back. One other man from that same past can help—Kyle–but can Laurel trust him? He had let her down before.
She has to turn to him, but she didn’t expect his distrust of her.
Someone is behind the scenes, setting things in motion, forcing her back. The question is, “Why?” The harder she tries to find a way out, the more Vic intrudes. Will he destroy her carefully established life?
My Thoughts:
Laurel is a good character; mom, friend, and business woman. She seems determined to do the right thing at the same time protecting her family. While she does make some choices that seem out of character, she is a strong, well developed character.
This is the first in the new “Shifting Sand Novels” series. The author has the beginnings of an entertaining series, light and easy reading. At the end she gives us a glimpse of the characters in Book Two to tempt us. It sounds like fun!
Ms. Starr has written a terrific first novel. I’ll look forward to reading the next in her series.
