Almost Instant: DIY Artwork

Help! I need artwork for my bathroom.

Recently, I gave my tiny bathroom a long overdue overhaul on a budget — actually a budget of zero dollars. It was looking good but I had one huge problem.

The previous owner of our mid-century apartment had left us with a mysterious hole in the tiles. What’s more, it was the first thing you see as you enter the bathroom and it was really bugging me. I needed to cover it quickly and for no money.

Here’s the horrible hole.

hole
Actually, it’s one large square hole that has been badly filled, one smaller round hole and a small chip in the tile to the right. Ugly.

Company was due to arrive and I was accustomed to apologising for my bathroom but the room was looking much better now. Or at least, it would if I could hide those blemishes.

I keep a small cupboard full of bits and pieces that ‘will come in handy one day’ and I raided it. My instant artwork was created using the following:

  • One cellophane bag that had held a greetings card
  • Two small images. They are actually my other half’s business cards but postcards or photographs cut from magazines would work just as well
  • One rope-type handle from a gift bag
  • One sheet of regular white printer paper
  • Masking tape

I didn’t even need scissors.I folded the sheet of white paper so that it was just the right size to fit into the greetings card bag. The two images were then attached. I used glue but double sided tape would have worked just as well.

This was then slipped into the greeting card bag.

Then it was simply a case of attaching the cord with masking tape.

Certainly, this artwork won’t last forever, although the cellophane will protect the images from moisture and splashes. But it took three minutes tops and successfully hid the bathroom eyesore 🙂
