On Tour With Debra Schoenberger
It’s a pleasure to once again present a photographic collection from author Debra Schoenberger. We were first introduced to her on her virtual book tour for India (Our review here).
Walk With Me is even more, in that it includes photos from wherever the author might travel, along with photos from her regular walks in her hometown of Victoria BC. The photos are wonderful. Some appeal for the setting, some for the vibrant scenes Ms. Schoenberger catches. Others simply because they are examples of ordinary life.
You will treasure this collection. Each time I’ve gone through its pages a different photo strikes my interest. A favorite is a street vendor’s cart, with bunches of bananas hanging around the top of the cart. Another is a child, sitting alone on a bench clutching a stuffed toy. Buildings, people, animals. still life, real life, all sorts of activities you might take for granted in a day, are found inside.
The first time I opened the book was to quickly go through it, to see what struck me. It is irresistible to see what each page holds. The second time was different. Looking at each individual photo you will ask yourself how the photo was captured and what meaning it might have to the photographer.
The city shots reflect how alone one can be in spite of the rush of people around. Sometimes though, they show the fun and pleasure found in being together with friends.
It surprises me how older things more than new often hold far more interest—even intrigue—than the modern polished items. Whether buildings, flowers or people, model perfect doesn’t usually fit in our every day except in a magazine perhaps.
Do grab a copy of this photographic journey. The pictures bring peace in many ways, seeing each scene from that one view. As you admire the little details, you will find yourself wanting to grab your camera or your smartphone and walking outside into the potential that surrounds you. I’m ready!

Whenever I’m asked “which is the best camera?” I pretty much respond: “the one you have on you.” In fact, most of the images in this book were taken with my cell phone simply because I always have it with me.

As a street photographer, I need to be an assiduous walker. My sneakers often take me to little known, hidden corners, seaweed strewn (and sometimes stinky) beaches and really cool back alleys of my rather small island city of Victoria, BC.
