The Promise, by Robert Crais

It’s finally here!  After a very long wait for Robert Crais and Suspect fans, the second book featuring Scott and Maggie, The Promise, has been released. It is actually considered part of the Joe Pike series, but this one features all four.

If you have read one of Robert Crais’ novels, you’ve probably read several. There is something very endearing about his characters. Elvis Cole and Joe Pike have been his usuals, with a series of fifteen books already. The more I read the series, the more I would like to hang out with them. They feel like friends now.

But it was Suspect that first lured me to become a Crais fan. The novel was the first appearance of Scott James and his new partner, Maggie. The first book I read by Robert Crais, it is still one of my favorite books. The story of the two wounded souls, uncertain whether either could fully recover, grabbed my attention from the start. You see, Maggie is a German shepherd, and a very talented one at that. You can read my full review of the book here.

Featuring a policeman and police dog in Suspect, and private detectives in the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series, the entertaining novels are in the mystery suspense genre. You will find yourself laughing often and very sorry to reach the last page.

Which is why I’ve been anxiously awaiting The Promise. Now available, the new book will feature both teams when their separate investigations intertwine. To me, that will be the best of both worlds. Scott and Maggie are an established team—or ‘pack’ as Maggie sees it. Put them together with Joe and Elvis and it will be a fun, engaging story with Mr. Crais’ usual cleverly written dialogue. It’s already in my library, so watch for the review in a few more days.

Elvis is hired to find a missing woman, while Scott and Maggie are on the trail of a thief. As we usually find in Mr. Crais’ novels, there is much more to the story. Bring in drug traffickers, terrorists, war veterans with an agenda of their own, and once again the story should take us on a wild read.

If you are like me and want it right away, you can order here.
