Gift Ideas: The Left Handed Kitchen

Treat Your Left Hander to These Lefty Kitchen Accessories

Do you have a few lefties in your family? If so, you may have heard them complain (only occasionally) about certain utensils, lessons, and notebooks. I bet you haven’t given it much thought, but today I beg you to reconsider.

Until you try cutting with a scissor not made for your hand, you won’t understand. It hurts! A right handed scissor cuts into a lefty’s thumb, leaving indentations and red marks. Totally inappropriate, wouldn’t you agree? Especially when the circumstance can be eliminated for a few dollars spent on a left handed scissor.

That is only one instant you might find, in and out of the kitchen.  Let’s take a look at some others besides.

Next, consider stirring a pot with a spoon that is for right handers.  I know. I know. Most are rounded and work well with either hand, but you can see from the specialty spoons below, in some cases it makes it very inconvenient.  Any time a left hander has to adapt and use the right hand, which is usually the weaker, it can get tiring.

Then there is the consideration of the design and writing on everything from measuring cups to mugs.  With measuring cups especially you find instead of 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, and so on, measurements in liters and milliliters.  Sorry, but here in the states, that really isn’t fair!

Even peeling and can opening can be a struggle if the gadget is designed for right handed people.

When I think of all we do throughout the day accepting a right handed item for our use without much thought, it seems all the more reason to provide all of us lefties with the appropriate equipment to make cooking more fun and easier besides.  If you don’t believe me, try it with the left handed scissor.  Huge difference, and one that is such an improvement you will see the value in other products.

Whether writing related, cooking related, or sports related, a left hander needs—and deserves–left handed equipment. Surely you can see why.

These days, more and more products are available to help, at very reasonable costs.  I can picture a sweet gift basket filled with the essentials like you will see below.  What a great way to brighten their day

You can see more of my favorite required items here.

From kitchen peelers to the essential computer mouse, you will find the appropriate and necessary gift the left handed person you love. Think how much they will appreciate it when they see your thoughtfulness this year.  Think how much more you will enjoy the meals they prepare when they are smiling through the process.
